1. How Does Upside-Down Text Work?

Upside-down text is created using Unicode characters that visually resemble 180° rotated versions of standard Latin letters. The Unicode standard includes dedicated code points for inverted characters, originally designed for mathematical and phonetic notation. For example, the lowercase"a" maps to"ɐ" (U+0250, Latin small letter turned A),"b" maps to"q" (since q is visually the upside-down of b), and"h" maps to"ɥ" (U+0265, Latin small letter turned h).

The transformation works in two steps. First, each character is replaced with its upside-down Unicode equivalent using a mapping table. Second, the entire string is reversed — because flipping text 180 degrees not only rotates each letter but also reverses the reading order from right to left. The result is text that, when your device is rotated or viewed in a mirror-like fashion, reads as the original text.

2. What Characters Are Supported?

Most Latin letters (a–z, A–Z) have upside-down Unicode equivalents. Numbers 0–9 are also supported with inverted forms (e.g., 6 becomes 9 and vice versa). Common punctuation marks are mapped to their rotated counterparts — periods become dots above the baseline, exclamation marks become inverted ¡, and question marks become ¿. Characters without Unicode equivalents (such as some symbols or non-Latin scripts) are left unchanged.
